Builders Exchange members and supporters turned out to network and celebrate the Industry’s accomplishments at the BX Annual Meeting last Thursday. First to receive an award was Donald B. Leach, Jr. (Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, LLP) the 2003 BX Cornerstone Award recipient. In his speech, Leach compelled others to reach out in volunteer service to the construction industry. Thanking all who helped him through the years, Leach said, “Make this industry your own. It’s something to be proud of.” Leach also encouraged the audience, of nearly 800 people, to volunteer at the Exchange. “Volunteer”, he said. “Be an instructor, join a committee, serve as an Outreach speaker, and offer your talents to an industry which has helped shape the entire Central Ohio community.” |

The night also served to recognize other BX winners. Several 2002-2003 scholarship recipients attended the evening and were recognized for their interest in the industry. Eleven individuals were honored with Craftsmanship Awards. Their trades encompassed carpentry, electrical work, roofing and concrete work. Two different types of safety awards were distributed — BX Safety Achievement Awards and BX Safety Innovation Awards. Eighteen companies earned Achievement Awards and seven companies were recognized with Innovation Awards. |

For the grand finale, a surprised Wade Hungerford (MCR Services, Inc.) received the President’s Award, which recognizes an individual for his volunteer efforts. Hungerford was honored for his years of service, which includes being an instructor for the popular BX course, Introduction to Scheduling, his contributions to the Outreach Program and also for his long-term commitment to the BX Scholarship Program. As a former scholarship recipient himself, Hungerford understands the importance of helping interested students pursue a career in construction. He currently serves as both a scholarship sponsor and a scholarship trustee. |
