Albert Fraley, the General Superintendent and Safety Director for MCR Services, Inc., has completed OSHA 500. |
| Course Objective: "Train the Trainer" | ||
| Knowing the standards and practices and enforcing them on construction sites was only the first step in jobsite safety. According to Al, the safety training course is a “train the trainer” course. In addition to providing a capstone refresher of the basic safety materials and approaches, the course will help him to get others to identify the common hazards—and their remedies—in construction. OSHA 500 demonstrates the best instructional methods so safety personnel can more effectively teach the standards to others. The course participants got a thorough grounding in basic classroom approaches and the use of visual aids and handouts (high visual impact gets the message across). The course also offered sample outlines for the 10 and 30-hour courses. |

Al credits the excellent safety record at MCR Services, Inc. to the company’s commitment to safety and compliance practices. “All our personnel are certified in CPR and First Aid and all of our Project Managers and Project Superintendents have completed OSHA courses 10 or 30—most through the BX.” “[This course] will improve my ability [as company Safety Director] to get others trained quickly and effectively.” |
One of the things that impressed Mr. Fraley was the diversity of the course participants. “There were a lot of very knowledgeable [safety] professionals in attendance,” according to Al. “[The participants included] everyone from ex-compliance officers, Mary Logan [BX Safety Director], Meg Dewerth [former BX Safety Director], larger construction company reps, steel erectors, plumbing contractors—even instructors from Columbus State’s Construction Management Technology.” |
OSHA 500 safety professionals must renew their credentials every four years. The Builders Exchange only offers this course once a year for two years. They will host it again in 2011 and 2012. |
