Originally part of the Industrial market, Transportation has developed to become one of our largest “focused” production efforts.
Central Ohio is in the middle of things; 50% of the US population lies within 8 hours of Columbus, so it has naturally developed into a major shipping hub. Many companies maintain regional hubs or central sorting facilities here. Continuing growth at Rickenbacker Port has resulted in one of the largest concentrations of ground and air transport companies in North America. The Transportation market is in a class of its own—with its own needs and concerns.
We have produced over forty projects to date, including our three largest projects. These range from simple improvements and mechanical upgrades to construction of major trucking terminals. We have built bus parking & work centers, aircraft bunkers and truck maintenance depots.
We’ve been awarded some of this work in a competitive bid environment with prepared construction drawings to work from, while others are done from a Design-Build approach, where we create true partnerships with the Owners and other Team Members. This allows us to give our customers the most value for their construction dollars.
We have to build relationships before we build buildings. During the early stages of a project's development, we can generate conceptual drawings and explore alternatives for our clients so they can easily recognize the value of our services. Many Transportation customers are located out-of-state, so “spot on” communications and fast responses become vital to successful project execution.
Some concerns unique to the Transportation market are CO2 handlers and removal systems; additional ventilation & filtration; distribution systems for compressed air, hydraulic fluid and oil and high-speed overhead doors. Changing FAA rules and toughened airport security keep the building process dynamic.
We have two basic Transportation market types:
