During his career on the east coast, Mauricio participated in high-profile projects such as Time Magazine’s complex, The Smithsonian Natural History Museum, United Brotherhood of Carpenter’s International and the Plasterers’ & Cement Masons International. He also helped develop the mixed-use facility at the Regal Cinema Complex in D.C. Chinatown.
One of his first projects, the Brentwood Post Office remodel, was memorable only because he—literally—bumped into Condoleeza Rice and the Mayor of D.C. during construction. He enjoyed working at the Carpenter’s building because it was a ground-up project with truly demanding framing and finishes, right at the foot of Capitol Hill. As expected, some of these projects were at government-secured facilities with no direct communication permitted between construction crew and staff. Mauricio considers these to be “real eye openers” on high-level security operations.
Mauricio has relocated his family to Columbus and they are looking for a house to remodel. (As expected, carpenters have a really hard time taking off their tool belts.) He and his wife, Trish, have three children, Benjamin, Mason and Lexie, and two Chihuahuas (Taquito and Fiona). They enjoy outings and at-home “family-time” and love Italian and Indian food, east-coast style pizza and (only his mom’s) authentic Mexican cooking.
