Illumination, LLC is a full-service photo studio based in Central Ohio. They produce photos for several local publications, as well as maintaining a thriving business with fashion & food industry clientele—plus their portrait studio. In 2007, it became apparent that their old digs were just not large enough to accommodate the expanding business.
Illumination contacted us and we helped scout potential locations, then coordinated the design process for their new commercial studio.
Challenges
Creating a High-End Studio from Old Offices
Eric Wagner, the owner, had worked with us earlier in the year, when we built his Inta-Juice bar at OSU through Campus Partners. With our “can-do” attitude, we were the obvious choice—especially since we had worked with his architect on other projects:
Unique insulation requirements for the elevated mezzanine area
Specialty wall & floor construction and exacting finishes for picture-perfect photo sessions
Extensive new lighting issues
Features
Numerous Special Features Incorporation into the New Photo Studio
1,800 square foot improvement to old tenant office space
Full-height and full-length glass wall façade
ADA-compliant new bathroom and shower facilities
See-through walls and open floor plan throughout
“Floating” seamless white epoxy flooring, special-ordered and installed, that slopes upward into the walls and eliminates shadows for optically-pure working conditions
Mezzanine office space so the owner could feel “on top of the world” and separate the studio from the business office
Specialty finishes throughout the rest of the space

Delivering the Full Range of Services
The finished studio has “the most perfect finishes I’ve ever seen,” according to Wade Hungerford, CPC, President & CEO of MCR Services. “We provided a full range of services on this project—from checking out potential sites and securing the lease, through design, purchasing & the construction process. [It was] a truly rewarding experience for everyone”
The finished minimalist suite provides the perfect working environment in which Eric can direct his business, and continue to grow as a commercial artist.
