For those central Ohioans struggling to get by with little or no health insurance, costs of having prescriptions filled can be out of reach. The Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio opened under the umbrella of The United Methodist Church, with the direction of Rev. John Edgar. The pharmacy, mirrored after a similar one in Cincinnati, will provide free prescriptions for uninsured and underinsured residents of central Ohio.
Challenges
One Building, Multiple Purposes
The pharmacy will operate out of the Livingston United Methodist Church and expects to serve 1,600 clients during the start-up year. A remodeling project that requires changing the use of a space brings extra challenges:
Constructing a door opening in an existing 2” thick plaster wall necessitating the reinforcement the surrounding wall
Features
All of the Amenities of a Pharmacy Inside a Church
Newly remodeled office spaces
Addition of a waiting room
Installation of an ADA restroom on the main floor

A New Aid to the Community
Central Ohio families now have a new place to get help with their prescription needs. This program is committed to moving anyone who comes to the pharmacy into a more sustainable plan. This is truly a bridge experience, and not a permanent solution. As such, we are proud to have helped facilitate this community outreach program.
